Our Customer Service Training expert is Joyce Clark. She brings many years of experience in this field, working in corporate management positions over the last 23 years. During this time, she has worked as department trainer, supervisor, and manager.  Through this experience, she has developed many training programs that helped organize and grow her former company.

Joyce moved to Sylva in 1998. She attended Southwestern Community College and Western Carolina University where she studied Business Administration.

Joyce has been married to her husband, Jim for 13 years.  They have 2 school-aged kids who are very active in rec sports.  She spends most of her free time participating in their many sporting events –football, wrestling, baseball, softball, cheer and dance. She is an active member of her Church. She is an assistant teacher in the youth Faith Formation program.

2025 small business start-up training
(prerequisite for a business start-up loan)


This 3-day training is offered four times each year and is required training for anyone seeking a small business start-up loan.

Offered through the EBCI Division of Commerce's Enterprise Development office, this training will help you:

  • Understand the business planning process

  • Develop your small business idea

  • Project your cash flow potential

  • Estimate how much you need to borrow

  • Decide the best way to market your business

  • Pick the best location for your enterprise
