September 10 marked the 20th anniversary of Sequoyah Fund’s legal formation as a nonprofit corporation. Since you only turn 20 once, we decided to have a party. And what’s a party without cake?!?
Rather than commission a large, expensive cake for the party, we decided to have a “Cake-Off” – a competition inviting the area’s finest professional and amateur bakers. (Why have one cake when you can sample LOTS of cakes, right?) The response was overwhelming: 17 cakes!
But this was much more than a party; we wanted to let the people decide on their favorite cakes by voting with their dollars. Each cake received “votes” in the form of dollars, and those dollars get donated to the Cherokee Children’s Home. Thanks to our generous cake-loving friends, we raised $321.62 for the Children’s Home!
And now for some amazing birthday cakes…
Below are the amazing cakes crafted by our talented local bakers. Each one was delicious! Below each photo is the baker, their status (pro or amateur), and where they placed in the “Cake-Off” competition:
Much appreciation to all who baked and to all who helped us eat and raise money for the Children’s Home!
Sgi!
