Kituwah Savings Program

The Kituwah Savings Program is a program that helps children at the Kituwah Language Academy learn to save and invest. Children entering the program for the first time will open a savings account at First Citizens Bank in Cherokee, and Sequoyah Fund will seed the account with $25. The child and parents/guardians commit to saving at least $50 during the school year. If this goal is met, Sequoyah Fund will match the savings with another $25.

Each year thereafter, Sequoyah Fund will continue to match the child's savings by adding $25 to the account as long as the $50 savings goal is met. Each month during the school year, representatives from Sequoyah Fund and First Citizens Bank visit the school and accept deposits during the lunch period.

Children also enjoy a visit to the bank where they get to explore the vault, see the super-fast money counter, and even help customers at the drive-through window. The students love this visit almost as much as the ice cream party at the end of the school year for all those who meet their savings goals.

We're sorry, but due to funding and staffing limitations, this program is only available to students at the Kituwah Language Academy. We hope to be able to expand this program in the future.
